Please Excuse the late post but I have only recently gotten back to civilization and a computer.
On 24 June at approximately 1830 hrs as we concluded our day's aerial survey, Russ Weeber, Dave Moore and I counted 53 Common Loons in two flocks swimming on Pickle Lake, at Pickle Lake, Ontario, approximately 539 km NW of Thunder Bay. Presumably these were failed breeders but still, a large number exhibiting perhaps a seldom observed behaviour.
