Greetings: I just returned from an amazing walk around the wetland:

First and most exciting for me was seeing a pair of Ruddy Ducks for the first
time in 12 years. He is so spectacular with that
blue bill.

I saw babies by the dozens -

Killdeer 4 little ones in the east end of the north cell. I believe that there
could
possibly be at least another two families. This I base on the actions of the
other adults.
It takes patience to see the little ones but you will. Watch for the adults
chasing anything that
moves near any of the sandbars.

Moorhen - 3 families of 5 - 6 each. One family I was so close (while walking
on the berm)
that an adult came running up the berm at me. They are not very big birds.
These babies are very young.

Other little ones include - Canada Geese, Wood duck, Virginia Rail (adults
purring like a cat),
Mallard, Marsh Wren, Red-winged Blackbirds, Common Grackle, Blue-winged Teal
and possibly Green Winged-Teal.

Most interesting was the actions of "4" Spotted Sandpipers in groups of two.
They were definitely doing the "injured" bird act.
I am not familiar with exactly where the Spotted nests but it certainly looks
like they may have done so at the wetland this year.

It was all so very exciting!!
Most sincerely Maureen

The Wetland is located exactly 7.2 kilometres south of the 401 at exit 509.
Just follow the road thru town. The entrance is located to the right of the
viewing platform.

The

Maureen

Most sincerely
