Hey Birders,
Well a pretty decent day, not as busy as the previous few days, but still quite
active. Around 130 species were seen on the island, including at least 25
species of warblers.
Here are the highlights...
Parasitic Jaeger - 1 adult light, seen at ~6:30pm on the south shore. Spotted
by Eric Holden, seen by Brandon Holden and Ken Burrell, while relaxing on the
back deck
- flew west-east about 500m. offshore, cruising and harassing gulls
- likely the 1st island spring record
Prothonotary Warbler - at least 1 male in the sloughts at Fish Point, one of
the more bizarre sights this spring, I observed a female at the extreme tip of
Fish Point this morning at 6:45, it perched and foraged for about 10minutes in
the last few bushes beside me and then took off, heading NW
Yellow-breasted Chat - 1 bird skulking at Fish Point
Hooded Warbler - 2 males at Sheridan's Point
Black-crowned Night-Heron - singles at Fish and Sheridan's Point
With the heavy fog this morning, I had several birds flying into the point,
from the south, most notably several Bobolink`s, Warbler sp. and a single Green
Heron and Lesser Yellowlegs.
Number of species seen on the island since April 25th: 216
Good Birding,
Ken Burrell
