On Saturday, May 07, a Boreal Chickadee (BOCH) was observed in a flock of 20+ Black-capped Chickadees at the Cabot Head Research Station (a Canadian Migration Monitoring Network member, operated by the Bruce Peninsula Bird Observatory). It was initially located by station volunteer Maggie, first by call and subsequently by sight. The sighting was confirmed by Stéphane Menu, the station scientist. The bird remained in the area until Sunday morning, when it was seen to fly towards the nearby Cabot Head Lighthouse, and was subsequently not recovered. The bird was seen by all of the participants of BPBO's Birding Weekend workshop. This is only the second record for BOCH at CHRS, and the first during the spring monitoring period.

The Cabot Head Research Station operates on the Cabot Head Provincial Nature Reserve, and is a closed facility. There are, however, numerous excellent birding areas in the immediate vicinity of CHRS. Day to day sightings/comments at CHRS are available in the station blog at www.bpbo.ca.
