I birded several areas in the west end of Ottawa this morning, locating a few
interesting new arrivals as migration continues.
At Britannia C.A., highlights were a RED-NECKED GREBE and a COMMON LOON on
Britannia Bay, two EASTERN KINGBIRDS, YELLOW-RUMPED, PALM, PINE, and YELLOW
WARBLERS, and a single WARBLING VIREO mixed in with the yellow-rumps.
Shirley's Bay offered three HORNED GREBES in beautiful breeding colours, as
well as approx. 120 LESSER SCAUP and a smattering of BUFFLEHEAD.
At the Bill Mason Centre in Dunrobin, ten VIRGINIA RAIL have returned to their
territories and were fairly vocal. A single GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHER was both
heard and seen in the woods beyond the marsh boardwalk, and a lone RUSTY
BLACKBIRD was calling from the far northern edge of the marsh.
