Posted with permission of ONTBIRDS coordinator: The 16th Journey North program is underway, with over 890,000 students from 38,000 sites in 50 U.S. States and 7 Canadian Provinces studying Wildlife Migration and Seasonal Change.
Thanks to the ONTBIRD members who already have registered their email address at www.learner.org/jnorth and submit their “first” sightings of target species and events, which are not rare in themselves but useful to note and record as patterns change over the years. Here is some of the information we are seeking for the database. Data is later compiled on maps located at the Journey North website: First frog heard First hummingbird seen First loon sighted First monarch butterfly sighted – adult, egg, caterpillar First robin (migrant) or wave of robins sighted First barn swallow sighted Alternatively, you are invited to send this data PRIVATELY to this writer BUT PLEASE DO NOT POST THIS INFORMATION TO ONTBIRDS. Send to: [email protected]. The report needs to include date of sighting, location of sighting (closest town, city, or name of provincial park or landmark), name and email address of observer and any observations (i.e. organism was resting, feeding, flying, appeared very worn, how many were seen, seen earlier than usual, etc) Thank you Don Davis Toronto, Ontario, Canada _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
