Ontbirders/Ontbirdettes,
I had a HOARY REDPOLL visit my nyger feeder today on 3 separate occasions. My
feeders are located on the border of a ravine on Highland Woods. It was with
COMMON REDPOLLS, but also visited with PINE SISKINS and AMERICAN GOLDFINCHES.
The bird was also seen by 2 other observers at different times today.
Hopefully it is around and feeding tomorrow.
Birders are welcome to call me and are more than welcome to wait it out in my
apartment, to see if it hits the feeders again. Alternately, one can explore
the Highland Woods area, looking and listening for the slurry call of the
Redpolls.
Highland Woods (and my place) is located in south London. From the 401, take
the Highbury Road cutoff and head north. Traveling north on Highbury, look for
the Commissioner's Road cutoff, and take that, heading west on Commissioner's.
Travel west on Commissioner's until you get to Wharncliffe Road. Travel south
on Wharncliffe for one block, and then go east on Highview Avenue East. On your
left is two large buildings. Parking is in visitor parking out front of
buildings. I live on the bottom floor of 90 Highview, the building on the
right. My feeders are on my balcony along the ravine.
The woods can be accessed by parking here as well, and walking north past the
left building, where a trail and hill is obvious.
Please call ahead of time if you intend to watch from inside my place.
