The first bird counted on the first day of the Niagara Peninsula
Hawkwatch's 37th season was a Peregrine Falcon that flew east across
Beamer Memorial Conservation Area at 09:45 today. In the next hour a
Red-tailed Hawk and an early dark-morph Rough-legged Hawk came by.
Although it was a blue sky day, the wind became quite brisk and made
counting decidely chilly. This wasn't enough, however, to stop two
Turkey Vultures from flying through, flapping hard. Two more Red-tails
rounded out the day.

Beamer Conservation Area is located atop the Niagara Escarpment on
Quarry Rd., off Ridge Road West, 1.2 km west of Mountain Rd. (access
from the Queen Elizabeth Way, Chrisitie St. exit) or 1.2 km east of
Woolverton Rd. in Grimsby, Ontario. (access from the QEW, Casablanca
Rd. exit).
