The first bird counted on the first day of the Niagara Peninsula Hawkwatch's 37th season was a Peregrine Falcon that flew east across Beamer Memorial Conservation Area at 09:45 today. In the next hour a Red-tailed Hawk and an early dark-morph Rough-legged Hawk came by. Although it was a blue sky day, the wind became quite brisk and made counting decidely chilly. This wasn't enough, however, to stop two Turkey Vultures from flying through, flapping hard. Two more Red-tails rounded out the day.
