On Tuesday afternoon during my Ornithology field trip Jude Girard and our group observed a female Barrow's Goldeneye off the southeast corner of Bate Island.
Directions: from the 417 in Ottawa drive north on Island Park Drive. Once on the Champlain bridge get in the right lane. Exit at the Bate Island ramp and drive to the parking area at the southeast end of the island. The bird was first seen with a small group of Common Goldeneyes at the east end of the small island across the rapids beside the parking area. Later it was seen in the rapids at close range beside the parking site. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
