15 OFO members attended today's outing. The weather forecasts probably disuaded
many but the sun shone throughout the day and it was warm in sheltered spots
off the lake.
50 species included 25 species of duck. Best finds were White-winged and Surf
scoters in rough waters off Millen in Stoney Creek; many Canvasbacks and
Redheads, 25 Ring-necked and about 200 Ruddy Ducks off La Salle Park in
Hamilton; 5 Northern Pintail, 6 Green-winged Teal, 4 DC Cormorants and 30
Northern Shovelers on Red Hill Creek leading into Windermere Basin. There were
all 3 swan species and 12 American Coots at La Salle Park. We also found all 3
mergansers, a Black-crowned Night Heron, Northern Mockingbird and 4 Song
Sparrows at Humber Bay Park East, 2 Peregrine Falcons at the lift bridge in
Hamilton, and at day's end 2 Yellow-rumped Warblers at Sioux Lookout in
Burlington.
