Ontbirders: Dave Don and I spent most of the day at 50 Point Conservation Area in Grimsby watching Lake Ontario. Although we had hoped to see the Purple Sandpiper that was reported yesterday we had no luck with that. We did, however, have good looks at a Pacific Loon about 400 yards off the point in calm waters. Although we saw the bird throughout the early afternoon, it was very elusive after we had a few initial looks, staying underwater most of time and moving fair distances before resurfacing. There were at least 3 Common Loons and 1 or 2 Red-throated Loons in the immediate area along with many Horned Grebes, Long-tailed Ducks and Red-breasted Mergansers.
Cheers Barb Charlton To get to 50 Point Conservation Area take the 50 Road exit from QEW Niagara and follow signs to the park. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
