Temperatures reached a high of 42f, but wind chill dropped it to about 20f. Winds where constantly strong from the north west at about 12mph, with gusts into the 20s. Though it was cloudy for most of the day, none of the rain or snow showed up. The storms seemed to stay along the western side of Lake Huron and then moving south. The parts of Canada that our birds come from received our predicted precipitation. Raptor Observations: Raptor migration was relatively slow today, most likely due to the bad weather in Canada. Golden Eagle numbers a down historically for this time of year with only 2 seen today. Turkey Vultures still pushed through with 97 counted for the day. We had another day of all 3 Accipiters with 10 Cooper's Hawk, 3 Sharp-shinned Hawk, and 1 Northern Goshawk. A total of 286 raptors were counted of 8 species. Non-raptor Observations: Predictions: The weather is turning for the better. We will now see temperatures warming throughout the week as the sun shines strong. Some rain is in the forecast for this following Friday and Saturday, but they won't know till next Sunday. I'm hoping to have some big movements now that there are no weather problems to fly into. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Greg Norwood ([email protected]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
