This morning myself and Dan Antonio boated down the Holland River from Bradford to Cook's Bay. Highlights included a close view of the adult Bald Eagles still hanging around their nest in the heron colony on the east side of the river where it enters Cook's Bay, a fly by Merlin, a large flock of Snow Buntings which flew over the boat, a large flock of Dunlin, a Greater Yellowlegs, and a photo-perfect Green-winged Teal and Great Black-backed Gull. In addition we spotted 12 Great Blue Herons, a raft of 40 Am. Coot. Bonaparte's Gulls, a Marsh Harrier, and quite a few Double-crested Cormorants. Also of note, on Tuesday, Oct. 26, I spotted an Osprey fishing on Soldier's Bay in Holland Landing at the bridge on Queensville S.R.
Cook's Bay is north of the town of Bradford near the end of the 13th Line of Bradford-West Gwillimbury. Go North on Hwy. 11 to the 13th Line and drive east to the end. Lookout across the bay to the east. Peter Wukasch _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
