There were approximately 800, plus or minus, sandhill cranes in the fields
south of Highway 26, east of Collingwood. They have been gathering there
for about a month, increasing all the time.

Directions: Coming from Barrie, go to the village of Edenvale which
crosses the Nottawasaga River, and go 3.6 Kms west to the Strongville Rd.
Turn left, ( it is on a bend of Highway 26) and go south about 4 kms. Look
on both sides of the road. They wander around the area quite a bit, and can
be far from the road, or right next to it. If they aren't there, continue
along that road which bends a few times, going south and then west, etc.
The best time is late afternoon when they fly in from the Minesing swamp,
and the surrounding area. They are calling and dancing, a wonderful sight.

>From Stayner, take highway 26, going east , past the little airport on the
south side, go around the bend which goes south, and when the road starts
to curve west again, the Strongville Road is on your right.

Cheers, Gail
