Folks

A correction to my first post. First off the Glaucous Gull was not a second
winter bird but a very worn juvenile. It was very lightly marked so I assumed
it was a second year bird. Usually the juveniles are very vermiculated and
beige at this time of year but not this bird. After checking my records it
isn't as early as I thought but does break my earliest previous local record by
one day-Oct.10/09. I took several pictures of what I thought at the time was an
odd juvenile Herring Gull but after looking closely at the pictures and the
open wing shots it appears to be an odd juvenile Thayer's Gull. The plumage was
so immaculate it actually glistened in the sun. it was a very uniform
chocolate brown colour. I posted many pictures of the bird on my blog if
anyone is interested in Larusology.
