Ontbirders,

There is an adult Gr. White-fronted Goose in the west end of Pittock Lake, with
1500 Canada Geese. The bird was along the north shore, sleeping mostly,
although
decent scope views could be had from the south side. [avoiding Pittock Park's
entrance fee]

The bird appeared to be the expected frontalis race [pink bill, orange legs,
pale belly barring] but don't quote me on it. This species has become nearly
annual at Pittock Lake in the last decade.

FYI, The east end of Pittock has excellent shorebird conditions.....extensive,
fresh mudflats. Unfortunately it lacks a key ingredient.....shorebirds. Of
course, there are the stock-standard common species in low numbers but it
boggles my mind that an area that looks so good can attract so little. Anyway,
the goose was nice!

Directions - To reach Pittock Lake from the 401, take the Mill Street exit
north
to Dundas, east to Vansittart Avenue and then east on Devonshire to Huron. Go
north from Huron to the lake.[Roth Park]
