Observation start time: 08:00:00
Observation end time: 15:00:00
Total observation time: 7 hours

Official Counter: Greg Norwood, Josh Haas

Observers: Don Sherwood, Jerry Jourdan

Visitors:
Lots of visitors for the Annual Hawk Fest. Events continue tomorrow.

Weather:
Light southwest winds in the middle of a low pressure system created poor
migration conditions, especially for broad-winged hawk.

Raptor Observations:
Sharp-shinned hawks still passed consistently with 319 today. Considering
the low numbers of all other species, 34 American kestrels is not too bad.
It is still far from our long-term average (since 1991) of about 100 per
day during this part of September. It was a very low day for northern
harrier with a total of 4.

Non-raptor Observations:
Passerines were working the trees behind the count site and periodically
making the passage from Gibraltar, Grosse Ile, or Canada. Numerous
yellow-rumped warblers were present. There were at least 100 ruby-throated
hummingbirds that were seen migrating.

Predictions:
Moderate northeast winds tomorrow with about a 40% chance of rain. If rain
holds, the count will be good and more numbers will be at the Pointe
Mouillee State Game Area count site. Both sites should be covered tomorrow.
