Ontbirders,

Ross Snider and I visited the east end of Wildwood Lake and there is finally
some decent shorebird habitat, mostly in the area around the 1st bridge along
the 31st Line.

Notable was a basic adult Red-necked Phalarope, 7 Stilt Sandpipers [mostly
juvs.] and a single juv. Baird's Sandpiper. Other species were present in good
numbers - 95 Lesser Yellowlegs, 45 Pectoral Sandpiper, 300+ Killdeer and a
sprinkling of Leasts and Semis. Diversity wasn't the greatest although that
should improve as more birds find the habitat.

We had a light raptor movement over the Lake as well, with about 30
Broad-winged
Hawks, a few Sharpies and a Northern Harrier. The requisite Great Egret flock
numbers 6 at present, and should build through the fall.

To reach the lake, take CR 6 north from the 401 to CR 28. Go west through
Harrington and take the 1st right [31st Line] to the bridge.

Cheers,
