Weather: Light, but consistent northwesterlies pushed a good number of birds through today. Raptor Observations: 88 raptors of 8 species was a nice early season total. Red-tailed hawks made an impressive passage with 30. They are on track for a great season after a few years of low numbers. 22 sharpies is on the low side and they will definitely be steadily increasing as this next week progresses. Today's late passage of turkey vultures was noteworthy with 16 in one hour, as were 3 peregrine falcons which are approaching their peak passage window here. Non-raptor Observations: A summer tanager was a rare bird to find near the boat launch. This species' appearance during fall is especially unusual as they are more typically found some years during May. A pectoral sandpiper flew over. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Greg Norwood ([email protected]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
