The Eared Grebe is still in Cobourg harbour today, Thursday August 5th, but has moved its location and is now feeding in the inner harbour among the moored sailboats. I saw it this afternoon in the extreme northwest corner of the inner harbour, at the very edge of the water, feeding just below the walkway near the main entrance to the Cobourg Marina - basically just a few feet away. It swam along the edge of the walkway a short way to the south and back again, often among feeding Mallards. Birders from Cornwall were getting great photos. Sadly, it seems to have sustained an injury and at this close range you can see that its left leg is trailing uselessly. It still has the remnants of breeding plumage and its eye is still bright red but it isn't quite as dashing as it looked in June. It's probably easiest to drive round to the west parking lot (which is free) and walk the short distance back to the marina building.
Directions: Directions: From Exit 474 on Hwy.401 drive south on Division Street which ends at the harbour. Drive round the north edge of the harbour to the parking lot on the west side.
