Vanya Rohwer, Martin Mallet and I saw the Black-bellied Whistling Duck
this afternoon around 2pm, sheltering in the weeds at the left front
corner of the near pond, best viewed from along the fenceline at the
right-hand side of the pond. The bird apparently spent most of the
time between 1130am and 2pm having a siesta hidden amongst that pocket
of reeds, so it seems that dawn or dusk are definitely better times to
view the bird. Even when it's somewhat buried in the vegetation, the
pink bill seems to be visible even with the naked eye. Good luck!
