Hello all,

Yesterday (July 12) I was out on one of my days off to look for Dickcissels
in the lower Bruce, a place where they had been seen on
previous occasions when the species undergoes periodic excursions into the
eastern limits of it's range to breed.

Sure enough, I observed two DICKCISSEL, one strongly singing male and a
female accompanying him, on Concession Rd. 8 at just about where it
intersects the J/L Line, on the south side of the road. The female was
skulky and I only observed her once before she retreated into the field, but
the male was vigorously singing from the low shrubs right alongside the
road. He would sometimes retreat into the field for brief stints but would
always return to a visible perch alongside the road.

Other birds observed/heard include GRASSHOPPER, SAVANNAH and CLAY-COLORED
SPARROWS, UPLAND SANDPIPER, and numerous BOBOLINK and EASTERN MEADOWLARK.

Directions:

Concession 8 is located off Highway 21 in Bruce County. The birds were right
alongside the road.

Good Birding,
