For those Toronto area birders who are still wanting to go birding but avoid
the mosquitoes, I had a lovely walk early this morning along the marsh at the
north end of Duffy's Lane in Palgrave Conservation Area. You can reach this
spot by driving n. on Highway 50 to Palgrave village, then turning west on
Patterson Siderd. to Duffy's Lane, where you go north to the parking area. Then
walk north from there.
Seen well were Veery adult and juvenile, male and female Purple Finch,
Broad-winged Hawk, Great-crested Flycatcher, Eastern Phoebe, Eastern Wood
Pewee, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Common Yellowthroat, Ovenbird, Yellow-rumped,
Black and white, and Pine warblers, and a male Indigo Bunting, as well as many
of the more common species. Several butterfly and dragonfly species were close
to the marsh.
Also found was a singing Blue-headed Vireo.
