The last of the migrating shorebirds reported locally were seen last Friday.
There were five species on Amherst Island including 3 Sanderling and a
White-rumped Sandpiper; at the lagoons, three more White-rumped and a
Black-bellied Plover.
Cuckoos have been quite vocal of late; a pair of Black-billed on Amherst and at
Camden East and Yellow-billed at the Camden Lake Nature Preserve and on the
Canoe Lake Road.
Green Herons were reported from Amherst, Camden Lake and Camden East.
Relatively unusual sightings included an immature male Orchard Oriole on
Amherst last Saturday, a Black Tern on the Cataraqui River today, a Purple
Finch returning to an Elginburg feeder with a fledgling after a month's
absence, and a N. Bobwhite (origin unknown) on the road into the Camden Lake
Preserve.
With this short missive I'll conclude reporting until the southward movement
picks up steam later this summer. As a final note the KFN are doing their 12th
annual Bioblitz tomorrow and Saturday on a property near Morton. For details
check the KFN website.
