Hey Birders,
There was a nice selection of birds today. Highlights include a singing male
Prairie Warbler at the extreme tip of Fish Point from 7:20-7:40am. It was
present in one of the last trees for a few minutes before it flew north several
hundred metres. A second-year female Golden-winged Warbler was banded at Fish
Point as well. A Yellow-throated Vireo was also seen at Fish Point. At least 22
warbler species were seen on the island. A male Dark-eyed Junco was seen along
the West Shore Road. Four Blackpoll Warblers were seen.
Shorebird numbers are starting to build. While Black-bellied Plover numbers
were not as high as yesterday with only about 100 seen. Other interesting
shorebird numbers seen throughout included 37 Semipalmated Plovers, 281 Dunlin,
2 Short-billed Dowitchers, 13 Ruddy Turnstones, 2 Solitary, 2 Least and 5
Semipalmated Sandpipers.
Good Birding,
Ken Burrell
