*Point Pelee National Park Migration Update for May 9, 2010: *

A bright but cool day greeted birders in the Park this morning. Winds were a
bit brisk from the north, but viewing conditions were great. The first bird
observed by many was a LAUGHING GULL at the Tip that was then seen most of
the morning further north on the East Beach approximately adjacent to the
Sparrow Field. A RUDDY TURNSTONE was reported from the same area.

At least 16 Warbler species were observed in the Park this morning with
highlights being: two singing HOODED WARBLERS located approximately 100
metres north of the tram stop on the main road to the Tip; a male CANADA
WARBLER singing on the south side of the Shuster Trail just west of the
turnoff onto the Tilden Trail; and a singing BLUE-WINGED WARBLER reported
from the Tip just south of the tram stop. Other warbler species included:
CAPE MAY, BLACKBURNIAN, AMERICAN REDSTART, BLACK-THROATED GREEN AND BLUE and
NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH on the Tilden and Woodland Trails.

Four species of Vireo were also seen on the Tilden Trail and Woodland Trail
collectively, with many WARBLING, several PHILADELPHIA, BLUE-HEADED and
RED-EYED. A PURPLE FINCH was also a highlight on the Tilden Trail while a
fly over of two SANDHILL CRANES was a highlight on the Woodland Trail. A
third year BALD EAGLE was seen soaring over the park at various locations.
