Today at the end of the 13th Line of Bradford-West Gwillimbury I watched a spectacular chase scene between one of the nesting Bald Eagles and an Osprey, one of several pairs along that part of the Holland River. The Osprey put up a valiant effort to evde the eagle, but eventually gave up, released its prey, and headed upriver to meet its mate. The eagle then headed off to the tree where it often roosts, close to the nest. Sadly, the Sandhill Cranes do not seem evident in the vicinity now. Hopefully the'yll still nest nearby. As well, on the 20th SR north of the 11th Line, there was a Northern Shrike making hovering forays over some weedy pools, periodically landing and grabbing at something with its beak. Frogs perhaps? although none were apparent. Sightings were north of Bradford on Hwy 11 and east along the 11th Line and north again on the 2oth SR to the 13th Line.
