Hi Birders,

In the cold and rain, Kyle Holloway and myself valiantly went after the
Eurasian Wigeon at the short viewing platform on the eastern side of
Cranberry Marsh this afternoon.

After waiting for a few minutes with no luck, I heard the sweet, sweet
vocalizations of flying Wigeons and, lo and behold, we observed the drake
Eurasian along with a few American Wigeons fly into the south-southwestern
part of the Cranberry Marsh. This was at about 4:00 PM.

After a few more minutes, we were able to observe the bird fairly well
through the cattails, but it was quite far in.

Other birds observed included Trumpeter and Mute Swans, Gadwall, Northern
Shoveller, American Black Duck, Bufflehead, lots of Ring-necked Ducks, a few
Hooded Mergansers, a Northern Shrike just near the short platform and a Tree
Swallow over the marsh.

On a side note, at Colonel Sam Smith Park yesterday, Kyle and I, in addition
to the Horned and Red-necked Grebes, also had a Pied-billed Grebe in the
western portion of the park.

Directions (Courtesy of Doug Lockrey)

Park car in the Lynde Shores parking lot, then walk through the woodlot to
the pathway that emerges at the south end and runs parallel to the private
roadway, down toward the lake. Continue past the tower platform to a
roadside platform that overlooks the wetland.

Good Birding,
