At approximately 6:40 pm this evening, in the flooded field along the south
side of County Rd 3 between Wellington County 24 (Trafalgar Rd) and just west
of 16th line of East Garafraxa, there were 13 Trumpeter Swans, along with a
number of Pintails, American Black Ducks, a few Mallards, one Bufflehead and
one American Wigeon. There were also a large number of Canada Geese. This field
has been a traditional stopping spot for many early waterfowl migrants. In
addition, at approximately 7:10 pm, 4 Sand Hill Cranes flew over Wellington
County 24, just south of County Rd.22, south of Hillsburgh, flying in a north
easterly direction. Last but not least, a Ruff Grouse was on the first driveway
on the south side just west of 6th line and County Rd 17, also south of
Hillsburgh. Hillsburgh is approx. 20 minutes south west of Orangeville.
Good birding.
