Hi all,
On my way home from a friend's house, just after watching Team Canada win our 14th gold medal of the Olympics, I spotted 7 short eared owls. It was about 6pm (dusk) at the corner of Stoney Creek Rd and Haldimand Rd 66 just south of Binbrook. There very well could have been more. Some were flying, others sitting on fence posts. To find this intersection, drive south of Hamilton on hwy 56 through Binbrook. Turn right on Haldibrook Rd. (about 5km south of the town). Turn left on Stoney Creek Rd. (your first left approx 1km) Turn left at Haldimand Rd 66 (approx 2-3km). The first owl was flying over the intersection. As I turned, I saw three on the fence posts on the right. One more was about 400m down the road, almost sitting on the road. The last two were flying on the left, approx 1km from the intersection. There was probably more, but as light was limited, and my kids having to get home for homework, I did not stop to check. Enjoy, Greg Salter [email protected] Caledonia _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
