Today, Wednesday February 24 between 1:30 and 3 pm between South
Keswick and Bradford I could not find any Snowy Owls in any of the
area they have been frequenting. Yesterday there was still one north
of Ravenshoe rd. There was a lone Great Blue Heron winging its way
toward Bradford coming from the north-east. One Rough Legged Hawk was
sitting on the wires just south of Ravenshoe on the West side of
Leslie, another patiently circled over the field west of the very
north end of Bathurst. A magnificent male Coopers Hawk was sitting in
a tree on the south side of Ravenshoe. Most noteworthy for me after
seeing so few Mourning Doves this winter was a gathering of well over
100 of them, on wires, on the side of the road, and in the corn field
about 1 km east of Leslie on Boag rd (one south of Ravenshoe).
Curiously, about 25 were gathered in the cornfield in an almost
perfect circle about 4 feet in diameter.
Hendrik Hart.
