On January 12 my ornithology class and I had the two male Barrow's Goldeneyes near the Tennis Club on the Rideau River (see earlier postings for directions) and a female Barrow's Goldeneye off the southeast corner of Bates Island. To access Bates Island take Island Park Drive north to the Ottawa River. When on the Champlain Bridge heading to Quebec, take the first right turn on the bridge.
