Hey there,
I the past three days there has been a "buildup" of Red-necked Grebes in the Thames River in London. On Jan 5 a single Red-necked Grebe was found in Greenway Park in London. Then a loon, a Red-necked Grebe and a Horned Grebe all crashed on roadways in and near London and were taken for rehab at Salthaven near London. On the 6th, the two grebes were able to be released into the Thames at the Komoka Bridge near Komoka, west of London. Also on the 6th, a total of three Red-necked Grebes were seen on the river in Greenway Park. Are they being forced out of the Lakes? I haven't heard if they are there today, but in the past, some seem to stay on for a while after these late "migrations" Pete Read Directions. Greenway Park is off of Springbank Drive in west part of London. Drive into the park on Greenway Drive (lights). Park in designated lots and walk along the river. There are a large number of birds sometimes congregating due to the Pollution Treatment Plant which expels heated water.there are up to 13 Great Blue Heron, a Redhead Duck, a few Oldsquaw, etc being seen at times. Any further directions needed email me privately, or to discuss this phenomenon, or let me know if you have found the involved species suddenly in your area. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
