Sorry for the late post. On January 1 there was a very late (for Ottawa)
Great Blue Heron in the creek between The Aviation Parkway and the bus
Transitway. The best way to access the area is to park on Palmerston Drive
and walk the snowy pathway that starts behind Epiphany Anglican Church on
1290 Ogilvie Road just east of the parkway. The bird was seen in the
section of open water fairly close to the Transitway. This was the same
spot it was seen on the CBC December 20. The woods just behind the Church
are also where the Black backed woodpecker was seen on December 20 (but
never relocated).
Incidentally, as proof that American Robins here are not a sign of spring,
one was seen January 1 at the corner of Blair Rd. and Montreal Rd.
To get to the area, from the 417 west from Montreal, exit on the Aviation
parkway, turn right on Ogilvie Rd. and then right on Palmerston. The path
may also be accessed from Palmerston Drive, but the access is not marked.
