Hello Ontbirders, here is a summary of the NW Ontario CBC results that I am aware of:
Dec 14: Atikokan temp -25C up to -19C! compiler Dave Elder 28 species, which tied the previous high count. Highlights: 1 Mallard, 43 Bald Eagle, I Northern Cardinal and 2 White-throated Sparrows Dec 19: Ignace, woods quiet, but birds at feeders, -20C. Compiler Barb McMullen 21 species (about average), highlights 334 Pine Grosbeaks, 5 Dark-eyed Junco, 2 Black-backed Woodpecker Dec 19: Nipigon, compiler Rob Swainson. Cold north wind 36 species (previous high count 37). Highlights: a Yellow-rumped (myrtle) Warbler and a White-crowned Sparrow (both new to the count), 3 Mourning Doves, a Northern Hawk Owl Dec 19: Manitouwadge, compiler Tammie Hache. Snowing, -14C. Only one field party and 4 feeder watchers 12 species, highlights 166 Pine Grosbeaks Dec 19: Eagle River, compiler Carolle Eady 34 species; highlights; 4 owl species (Northern Saw-whet, Great Gray, Great Horned and Northern Hawk Owl) all 3 grouse species, 2 Common Grackle, 2 "Wild" Turkey, 17 Black-billed Magpie, 8 White-breasted Nuthatch. A Golden-crowned Kinglet was seen Count Week. Dec 20: Marathon, compilers Martha Allen and Michael Butler 38 species. Highlights: 33 Mourning Doves and 9 Blue Jays (new high counts); a Townsend's Solitaire, an Eastern Towhee, a drake Ring-necked Duck (new to the count), 7 Long-tailed Duck, a Barred Owl, 2 Three-toed Woodpecker, a White-breasted Nuthatch and a Brown Creeper, 3 Northern Cardinal and a Fox Sparrow. A Chipping Sparrow was seen Count Week. Dec 26: Thunder Bay, compiler Nick Escott. Mild, freezing rain and snow 49 species (a little above average). Highlights: a Hooded Merganser (new to the count) , 1 Lesser Scaup, 369 Mallard, 50 Bald Eagle, a Barred Owl and 2 Northern Hawk Owl, 2 Northern Flicker, 180 American Robin, 1 Golden-crowned Kinglet, 4 Northern Cardinal.
