The 59th Carleton Place CBC was conducted on December 27th after a miserable
day of freezing rain on the 26th. There were 32 field observers and 25 feeder
counts.

We had 40 species and 4562 individuals. This is down 7 species and 500
individuals from the previous year as well as being well below previous good
years. Our highlights were 2 Hooded Mergansers, 2 Grackles, 15 Red-winged
Blackbirds and a record number of Turkeys at 285. The species with the largest
reductions were Redpolls and Pine Siskens (a few at a feeder), no Crossbills,
Pine Grosbeaks or Horned Larks. A goodly number of Bohemian Waxwings at 159
and Snow Buntings with 500 in CP.
