First of all, a big thanks to everyone who e-mailed me personally over the last week or so to fill in some of the blanks on the 2009/10 Ontario Winter List. We are getting closer to our average for the last 2 years by this time of the season.
We now have all the expected species of waterfowl, raptors, woodpeckers and wrens. We have all the owls except Boreal and all the finches except Hoary Redpoll. The Rondeau CBC just reported in with Virginia Rail and Wilson's Snipe, so those will be added to the update next week. Other regular species not reported to date are: Spruce Grouse; Eared Grebe; Mew and Sabine's Gull; Eastern Phoebe; Black-bill Magpie; Brewer's Blackbird; and Baltimore Oriole. Hopefully some of the upcoming CBC's will produce a few surprise sparrows or warblers to help round out the list. Here is the link again so you can see where we are to date: http://www3.ns.sympatico.ca/maybank/other/onwinter.htm You will want to log in just to see Dian Bogie's picture of Mr. P. Good birding.
