The Lakeshore CBC was held Monday, December 14 in Essex County. The total 
species count (tentatively at 76 species) was well above our previous record 
high of 67 species which was set on December 22, 2001. Eleven species were new 
for the count and an additional 16 species tied or exceeded previous count 
totals. American Crow numbers were at record low numbers. 

A few highlights include: 
Double-crested Cormorant 2 - new for count
Cackling Goose 1 - new for count
Tundra Swan  3,622 - record high count (1500 in 2002)
Gadwall 4 - new for count 
Long-tailed Duck 2 - new for count (count period in 2008)
Common Goldeneye 1,960 - record high count (1100 in 2001)
Wild Turkey 22- new for count
Peregrine Falcon 1 adult - (1 in 2008)
American Coot 1 - new for count
Red-headed Woodpecker 1 - new for count
Red-bellied Woodpecker 17 - record high count (8 in 2006)
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker 1 - new for count
Blue Jay 130 - record high count (104 in 2005)
American Crow 23 - record low (vs. 35,750 in 2001)
American Robin 39 - record high count (18 in 2007)
Carolina Wren 12 - record high count (4 in 2006)
Yellow-rumped Warbler  3 - new for count
American Goldfinch 252 - record high count (133 in 2008)
