Hi folks,
Today I received a call about a Thrasher coming to a feeder in town and sure
enough this evening (between 5:45-6:00 pm) I observed and photographed a Brown
Thrasher at 86 Essex Lane in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. The property owners
stated that it has been feeding in the back yard, at this location, on bird
seed and suet for 3 weeks. The recent snow accumulations may prove fatal for
this bird despite the landowners attempts to keep a feeding area clear of snow
with enough food to survive the night. It primarily feeds first in the morning
and just before sunset under a garden Trellis/Bench combo. It takes refuge in
the Cedar hedges that surrounds this residence. It may be possible to observe
this bird in the hedge at the north-west corner of the Emmanuel United Church
parking lot.
Sault Ste.Marie is located 3 hours west of Sudbury. Essex Lane is located in
the east end of Sault Ste. Marie, west of Boundary Road just off of Chartwell
Drive.
