Weather: Thick fog early so did not start until around 11:30am when it started to get a little lighter out and the fog started to move away a little. I could not even see the house on the first part of land right across from the count location, when I first got to the count. Wind was around 0-10mph all day. At first it was from the North-East. Then it changed to East for last part of the day. It went from 100% cloudy down to 75% cloudy late in the day. It also went from very thick fog to mostly clear with only a little fog left over. Raptor Observations: Two times the fog cleared away a little and when it did a good movement of birds went on. With mostly Turkey Vultures and Red-tailed Hawks moving. Just before 3:00pm the fog cleared away for good and then lots of Red-tailed Hawks went by with 40 in the 3-4pm hour. Also in that hour 2 Rough-legged Hawks and 3 Golden Eagles went over. In all 120 Turkey Vultures, 82 Red-tailed Hawks, and 5 Golden Eagles were counted. Non-raptor Observations: It was also neat to see 3 American Coots fly by high up in the sky. Well just above tree top level, so high up in the sky as far as Coots go. Predictions: It should be strong West-South-West winds so I would guess it will be slow. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Seth Cutright ([email protected]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.smrr.net/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
