Visitors:
About 30 or so visitors today. Some of the helpful spotters included Dave
Stimac and Jeff Beckings(?), of Michigan, Jim McCoy, Karen Padbury, Sarah
Rupert, and Rene Kielbasa.


Weather:
Mostly clear skies with very few small cumulus clouds developing around
midday. Light Northwest wind at 1 to 3 mph early on soon switched to the
Southwest at 4 to 7 mph by 1030 EST. Temps. climbed from a frosty 2.5 to a
mild 10.5C. Visibility excellent all day.

Raptor Observations:
Vultures, once more, were the most numerous raptor, however, the flight has
thinned out considerably.

Canvasback- 25,
Redhead- 2,

American Bittern- 1,
Black-crowned Night-heron- 3 (1 subad., 2 juv.)
Great Egret- 10,
Common Moorhen- 2+,

Bonaparte's Gull- 20,

Killdeer- 8,
AM. AVOCET- 1 in basic plumage (continues from 14 Oct)
Wilson's Snipe- 1,

Common Nighthawk- 1,
Chimney Swift- 15,

Tree Swallow- 50+,
N. Rough-winged Swallow- 10+,

Predictions:
Mostly sunny skies with breezy Southwest winds at 8 to 12 mph in the AM and
increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the PM. Some gusts could reach 30 mph. High
of 14C. It will be an uneventful day as far as raptor migration is
concerned, as will most of the week judging by the long term forecast with
predicted Southwest winds.
