Hi all,

Another fine weekend of birding at Rondeau Park and area!

Highlight today was a RED-NECKED GREBE off the Rondeau Park Dock. (This species is rather rare at Rondeau.) In the vicinity of it were at least 11 Horned Grebes which is a decent count for the Bay.

Among the hundreds of Yellow-rumped Warblers were a "Yellow" Palm Warbler and a Magnolia Warbler. Other warblers included Blackpoll, Nashville, Black-throated Green and several Orange-crowned. Most of the birds were in the shrubs along the beach area of South Point Trail.

Raptors today included Golden Eagle, Northern Goshawk, Red-shouldered Hawk, etc.

Shorebirds included hundreds of Dunlin along the edge of Marsh Trail. Others in the park included Pectoral Sandpiper, Lesser Yellowlegs, Sanderling and Black-bellied Plover.

Ridgetown Lagoons have held Long-billed Dowitchers all week, and this weekend 2 Snow Geese and a Cackling Goose were present.

There was a large movement of Common Loons yesterday, but not today.

Rondeau Provincial Park is found by exiting 401 at #101 (Kent Bridge Rd.)
and travelling south to Rose Beach Line. Turn right and head towards the
park. Watch for prominent highway signs.

Lagoon Directions: Ridgetown is about 30 minutes east of Chatham. Exit 401
at Rd. 21 (#109) and head south. From the main corner in Ridgetown at Erie
St. and Main St., follow Erie St. north about 1.5 km to Mitton Line/Palmer
St. Turn left onto Mitton Line and go past fertilizer plant. Lagoons are
on the south (left) side and you will see a viewing stand. Do not enter
beyond fence.
