Weather: Today's weather was 100% cloud cover and clear to partly hazy visibility. Winds at the count site were 0-3mph and from the West-South-West all day. It sounded like and looked like wind around the area and in the trees near the count site were closer to 5-10mph. Raptor Observations: Today was kind of slow but also steady. It was a good day for Sharp-shinned Hawks, with 139 counted. A good day number of Bald Eagles with 11 total were counted. The Bald Eagles counted today were: (1st year: 4), (2nd year: 2), (3rd year: 2), (Adult: 3) Non-raptor Observations: Many larger flocks of Blue Jays and Blackbirds went by. Also good numbers of both Tree and Northern Rough-winged Swallows were around. Three Semipalmated Plovers went over early in the day. Around 15 or so Ruddy Ducks and one Sora (Sora Rail) can be seen from the first bridge along the trail. Several Chimney Swifts are still around. Predictions: Friday looks to have rain all day, if not on and off rain all day. Likely will not get down to the count. But depending on what the rain does, at least one if not both weekend days should be good. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Seth Cutright ([email protected]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.smrr.net/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
