Visibility was very clear. It went from 100% cloudy in the first few hours of the day to 60% late in the day. Raptor Observations: Today was a better day then what I thought it might be. A good number of Turkey Vultures went by. Around 1,500 or so got counted along with around 100 Sharp-shinned Hawks. In the 1-2:00pm hour (2-3:00pm people time) a season first Rough-legged Hawk went past. It was a light phase/morph bird. Very good looks were had. Non-raptor Observations: For the first several hours of the count, because of the wind the water levels in the river were way down. So far down that most of it was dry or close to it. Because of this around 20 Great Egrets and 2 Great Blue Herons were able to stand around and feed. Also many gulls could come in and sit around and feed too. Predictions: It looks like we should get slightly lighter winds so that should help push more birds past. Also chances of rain by about 4:00pm or a little later might also push some by. With a good flight of Turkey Vultures today, I would guess about the same if not a little more go by again. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Seth Cutright ([email protected]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.smrr.net/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
