About 30 visitors in all including regulars Jim McCoy and Wayne and Carmen Hudson. Dan and Jill Lumm relieved me of my counting duties for the day. Thanks Dan and Jill! Weather: Mostly clear skies with very few clouds. A light haze lingering over Lake Erie through first hour. North to Northeast winds at 2 to 12 mph. Temps. ranged from 15 to 22.5C. Visibility excellent at 30+ km for a majority of the day. Raptor Observations: An excellent start to the day, but miserably slow after noon. Good numbers of Sharpies between 0800 and 1100 EST with a total of 89 in the third hour. The raptor flight pretty much fell off with the winds by noon. Non-raptor Observations: 12 species of waterfowl, Black-crowned Night-heron- 4, Bald Eagle- 4 locals, Shorebirds included Killdeer, Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs. Ruby-throated Hummingbird- 30, Yellow-bellied (1) and Least Flycatcher (1-2). Blue Jay- 900 (first significant flight), Blue-gray Gnatcatcher- 1, Moderate morning flight of warblers. Small flock moving through in afternoon, which included American Redstart, Nashville, Tennessee, Magnolia, Yellow-rumped (1), Black-throated Green, Blackpoll, Blackburnian Warbler, and Common Yellowthroat. Cedar Waxwing- 50, Purple Finch- 5, American Goldfinch- 325, Other: Monarch- 48, Few dragonflies today. Predictions: More unseasonably warm weather predicted. Clear to partly cloudy skies with North-northwest to West-northwest winds at 5 mph. High of 25C. The Festival of Hawks continues tomorrow and again next weekend. Many, many raptors yet to come.
