Hi all.
The Trumpeter Swan, dicovered last week was present to-day around 1:00PM at the North-East cell of the Embrun sewage lagoons. Despite the bad weather, Michel Bertrand who was visiting for the day from the Montréal area, and I, were able to observe it and make notes of the main caracteristics during a 15-20 minutes mostly rainless period. Thanks Michel for helping me with your identification skills. The bird was first found on May 4 and has been seen daily between May 8 and to-day, mostly in the early morning, and also in the early evening; many observers who tried after 10:00 AM or in the afternoon did not see it; the bird has been seen leaving between 9:30 and 10:00, presumbly to go feeding in adjacent fields. To-day we had no choice of time; we were lucky to find it waiting for us. Good luck if you try. Langis Sirois, Ottawa Directions courtesy of Neily World Birding: From Highway 417 (The Queensway), 39 km east of Ottawa, take exit 79 (Regional 5), labelled Limoges / Embrun. Turn left or SSE on it and go 1.5 km to Route 400. Turn left or northeast onto Route 400 and after about a kilometre the Embrun Sewage Lagoons will be on your left. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
