Little Gulls
There were 43 birds present between the marsh and adjacent Lake Ontario.
There is also 1600 Bonaparte's Gulls present this morning.
Almost all Little Gulls and Bonaparte's left for the marsh by 9:30am
Warblers 9 species
In order of abundance Yellow-rumped, Yellow, Black-throated Green, Pine,
Black and White, Nashville, Blackburnian, Magnolia, and Northern Parula
Most of the warblers were in woods in the western end of Darlington
Provincial Park just east of the second marsh, or Cool Hollow area adjacent
to the southeast corner of the Second Marsh.
Waterfowl
1 Female Harlequin duck in Lake Ontario offshore of the marsh. It was with
200+ Buffleheads. Other birds on the lake included several Common Loons,
Horned Grebes, Red-necked Grebes and 100s of Red-breasted Mergansers.
Species observed in the Second Marsh included Canvasback, Northern
Shovelers, Ruddy Ducks, Wood Ducks, Ring-necked Ducks, etc.
Shorebirds
6 Greater Yellowlegs, 9 Lesser Yellowlegs and nesting Killdeer
other species present:
Sora, American Bittern, Virginia Rail, Common Moorhen, American Coot,
Orchard Oriole, Eastern Kingbird, Field Sparrow, Purple Finch and Blue gray
Gnatcatchers
Directions
Exit from the 401 at the Harmony Rd. Exit(419) in Oshawa. Go south on
Farewell St. Colonel Sam Drive. Turn East onto Colonel Sam Drive and follow
to the parking lot at the GM Headquarters. Park in the west parking lot
close to the marsh. The east (GM) platform is visible from the NW corner of
the lot.
