Oshawa Second Marsh
Little Gulls numbers have been fluctuating between 10-20 birds for most of
the week. This morning there were 32 birds present. Up to 23 birds could be
observed at one time performing courtship display flights over the marsh.
Bonaparte's Gull numbers have been fluctuating around 500 birds daily for
the whole week.
Waterfowl numbers have declined to less than 400 birds. Teals and Ruddy
Ducks (32 birds this morning) appear to be the only species increasing.
Yesterday I watched the Marsh Bullies aka the resident Trumpeter Swans
attack a nesting goose than proceed to destroy the nest and eggs. The naive
geese had the audacity of nesting in the swan's territory (the northern 1/2
of the marsh)
Other species seen/heard today include Wood Ducks, American Wigeon,
Caspian Tern, Greater Black-backed Gull, Marsh Wren, 3 Virginia Rails,
Common Moorhen, Pied-billed Grebes, 3 species of swallows, Fox Sparrows,
Northern Mockingbird and a Carolina Wren

Exit from the 401 at the Harmony Rd. Exit (419) in Oshawa. Go south on
Farewell St. Colonel Sam Drive. Turn East onto Colonel Sam Drive and follow
to the parking lot at the GM Headquarters. Park in the west parking lot
close to the marsh. The east (GM) platform is visible from the NW corner of
the lot.
