Birders, Mid morning I observed a rare male black headed Ruddy duck at Holiday Beach CA. The bird could be viewed from the Hawk tower looking towards the north.
This is not a subspecies but a variant in plumage. look in your Sibley Guide! This is the second male that I observed with this plumage the last being seen with Ethan Meleg in the mid 90's at the Harrow lagoons(now closed). from the town of Harrow head west on cty,rd.20 then turn south in the hamlet of Malden Centre on cty, rd. 50 go 1.5km and your there.
