Hello Ontbirders,
This morning between around 9:00 and 10:00 am, during the Ottawa Field-Naturalists' Club outing, we saw a female Red-bellied Woodpecker at the Britannia Conservation Area / Mud Lake. We first it in a large red or silver maple on the Filtration Plant grounds, along the path the runs between the large rubble pile and the Ottawa River. We then saw it (assuming it was the same bird) in the woods to the west of the pond, in trees next to the small bay that is just south of the viewing platform. It was also calling at both locations. Directions to the Britannia Conservation Area can be found on the OFNC's birding site guide at http://www.ofnc.ca/birding/wheretogo/index.html.
